About Yvonne E. Bosserman

Yvonne Elaine Schauer was born December 20, 1929, in York, Pa. She was the daughter of Eugene Alexander and Claudia Dell (Lanningham) Schauer. Yvonne raised six terrific (if we do say so ourselves) children: Tom, Gene, Peggy, Becky, Robin and Bobby Haas.

Yvonne was truly the heart and soul of the Haas family, who persevered through some tough times. Yvonne passed away on March 15, 1999, after battling both Leukemia and Alzheimer’s Disease. She left a wonderful legacy in her family, including her sister, Norma Ensminger; her husband, Clarence Bosserman; her six children, Tom Haas, Gene Haas, Peggy Mitzel, Becky Hubley, Robin Roseberry, and Bobby Haas; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren (so far).

About the Haas Open

In 1992, the children of Yvonne Bosserman gathered with a handful of friends for a round of golf at Briarwood West Golf Course, followed by an outing at the home of Yvonne’s youngest daughter, Robin. Over the next several years, the number of people who joined the Haas family for golf and fun grew and grew. Yvonne’s children took turns each year hosting the post-golfing party, and golfers tried their hand at several different courses. Prizes were added to recognize golfing prowess (or, rather, lack there of).

Thankfully, Yvonne was able to share in these early golf tournaments. After her death, the brothers and sisters decided to honor their mother by using the golf outing to raise money to help people with Alzheimer’s. In its first year as a charitable event in 2001, the Haas Open raised $400 for Noah’s Place, an adult daycare center for Alzheimer’s patients. Noah’s Place has since closed, and money raised from the Haas Open is now donated to the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Now in its 19th year in 2011, the Haas Open has grown to a record number of golfers, not to mention the dozens of family and friends who join in for the post-golfing festivities.
